Ultherapy

Ultherapy® is a new type of non-surgical, non-invasive procedure for the face that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin (softlift/ soft lift).

The FDA-cleared Ultherapy - device used in the procedure utilizes the safe, time-tested energy of ultrasound to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin, including those typically addressed in a surgical facelift, without disturbing the surface of the skin. Unlike lasers, which penetrate the skin from the outside-in, Ultherapy bypasses the surface of the skin, specifically targeting the deep, structural skin tissues where collagen lives. Using ultrasound technology, Ultherapy actually works from the inside-out to lift and tighten skin non-invasively. Over 700.000 Ultherapy-treatments have been performed globally.

Ultherapy - when to expect results

With the Ultherapy - treatment, there’s no downtime, no foreign substances, no radical change associated; just a healthy revving-up on the inside for a natural, noticeable effect on the outside. With Ultherapy, you can go about your day after a single, 30-60 minute in-office procedure. You may notice a short-term “boost” right after the Ultherapy, but the natural process of creating new, more elastic, collagen builds over time—much like the effect that exercise has on building muscle (but without the multiple workouts!). Results of an Ultherapy will step by step unfold over the course of 6 months. While ultrasound does not duplicate the results of surgery, Ultherapy has proven to be an inviting alternative for those who are not yet ready for surgery. There is a reason, why Ultherapy is the only non-surgical lifting method for the face, the neck and the submental area approved by the FDA!

Ultherapy - the "see and treat" - procedure

In a way, Ultherapy is like an ordinary ultrasound imaging procedure that expectant mothers or regular medical patients may receive. The Ultherapy -  handpiece is placed on your skin and an image of the tissues different layers beneath is projected on a screen. This allows your Ultherapy - practitioner to “see” where he will treat your skin.

Now here is the difference: with Ultherapy, that same handpiece is used to deliver tiny deposits of highly focused ultrasound energy - at just the right spot and depth below the skin, to the same foundational layer typically addressed in a surgical facelift, the SMAS. Your skin's response to this energy is to recondition tired skin by stimulating the growth of fresh, new collagen and elastin. The resul t of an Ultherapy - treatmentis a tightening and gradual lifting and change of apperance of the skin.

Where can I get an Ultherapy - Treatment?

Only at selected medical doctors practices. Every Ultherapy practitioner undergoes extensive hands-on training, so you can schedule your Ultherapy procedure with complete confidence.

How long does Ultherapy take?

An Ultherapy procedure, depending on the sice of the area to be treated,  typically takes between 15 and 90 minutes (for example eyebrow-lifting vs. full face and neck). With Ultherapy, there are no special after-care requirements and you can resume your normal activities immediately.

No preparation whatsoever is required before your Ultherapy® procedure, although your practitioner may recommend that comfort measures such as over-the-counter or prescribed medication be taken prior to treatment.

What exactly happens during an Ultherapy?

Before the Ultherapy - procedure there will be anaesthetic gel applied to the treatment area for ca. 60 minutes. In addition, you will be offered 1200 mg Ibuprofene capsules ca. 40 minutes before the Ultherapy starts. After cleansing the skin and identifying the treatment-areas, an ultrasound gel is applied regionally and the Ultherapy - handpiece is placed upon your skin. The high-focused ultrasound energy bypasses the surface of your skin and is delivered to pre-planned depths (depending  on  the transducer in use) within the tissue below to stimulate collagen growth.

Does Ultherapy hurt?

Comfort levels vary from patient to patient and can depend on the area treated as well. Your practitioner will discuss options for making the experience as pleasant as possible (like anaesthetic gel and Ibuprofene). The sensation you experience during Ultherapy is associated with the high-focused ultrasound energy as it is deposited below the surface of the skin. It is noticeable just while the energy is being delivered and patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come. The Ultherapy-specialist will try to avoid areas of extreme discomfort.

What happens after the Ultherapy - procedure?

After the Ultherapy, you will be able to return to your normal activities right away, and there are no special measures you need to take. Your skin may appear flushed after the Ultherapy - treatment, but any redness should disappear within a few hours. Since the surface of the skin is intact, you may apply concealer on the treatment-area. It is not uncommon to experience a slight swelling for a few days, or tingling/ tenderness to the touch for a few weeks following the Ultherapy - procedure, but these side effects are mild and temporary in nature. There is the possibility for other less common post-procedural effects, such as temporary small areas of bruising or numbness, and other rare effects which your Ultherapy - physician will review with you before the treament.

Is Ultherapy the right thing to get for everyone?

As with all medical procedures, there are individuals, who are not eligible for an Ultherapy - treatment. For example individuals undergoing chemotherapy, receiving corticosteroidal treament, taking painkilers or NSAID's on a daily basis, suffering from chronical autoimmune deseases or keloid scars, At the end of your consultation it should be clear, wether you are eligible for Ultherapy or not.

Are there any  side effects associated with Ultherapy?

There have been reports of side effects, depending on the experience of the Ultherapy - practicioner. You can always ask your Ultherapy-specialist, how many procedures he arealdy conducted. Dr. Huschek will inform you about contraindications and possible side effects of an Ultherapy - treatment.
